Lines about the 6 months of darkness in Anthony Powell’s incredible documentary

“When [winter’s] over, we tell people about T3 and the paleness and they’re like, why would you ever put yourself through that? But when we look back, we think…. Winter’s the best.”

“If you could do winter differently, what would you do?”

“I would bring less stuff.”

“Those who come here have a spirit of adventure and that binds us together.”

Personal thoughts:

One of the men says he doesn’t miss the daytime, he’s fine enjoying the dark winter for now.

Nighttime without light pollution is awe-inspiring. Stars and lights visible like they were originally created to be experienced. Can’t help but makes me think of God. In our darkest times, are we supposed to see God like this? Or is there too much pollution in our lives to experience the darkness in awe of God?

I love that people here spend so much time together. Stuck together indoors for a long period of time, the people spend time in community —eating together, making up games to play, doing what they can to make the time enjoyable. Really getting to know each other. Nothing else to do.

“I was actually on my knees, and I was crying. That’s how beautiful it was to me.”
